The Gilli Danda International Federation (GDIF) is the world's first official governing body dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and global recognition of Gilli Danda—one of the oldest traditional sports rooted in Indian heritage. Established with the vision of reviving the cultural legacy of ancient sports, GDIF aims to unite traditional sports enthusiasts, players, and organizations across the globe under one umbrella.
Founded in 2017, GDIF operates as an international non-profit sports federation to organize, regulate, and promote Gilli Danda championships at national and international levels while preserving the intangible cultural heritage associated with the game.
🎯 Objectives of GDIF
The primary objectives of the GDIF are:
- To standardize the rules and regulations of Gilli Danda for national and international competitions.
- To revive and promote Gilli Danda as an integral part of India's intangible cultural heritage globally.
- To organize Gilli Danda World Cups, Championships, and Tournaments at different levels.
- To encourage youth participation and connect the new generation with traditional sports.
- To promote gender equality and community-based participation in rural and urban areas.
- To collaborate with UNESCO, the International Traditional Sports & Games Association (ITSGA), and National Traditional Sports & Games Federations for the protection and promotion of traditional games.
- To work for the inclusion of Gilli Danda in national and international sports events like the Asian Traditional Sports Games and World Traditional Sports and Games Movement.
